Richard and Terri Grist

Richard Grist CEqD is a native of England but considers the U.S. home after living here for the last 25 years. He received his dental training originally in England at Hartpury College after being introduced to equine dentistry from his brother-in-law. Once he made the move to the states, he continued his education at the Academy of Equine Dentistry in Idaho and went on to start a private practice here in Florida in 2001. Richard finds the challenge of correcting complicated dental issues rewarding and enjoys teaching his clients about the equine mouth and the benefits of routine care.

Personally, Richard is married and has four step -children who he enjoys spending time with. His hobbies include driving at both racetrack and auto cross events as well as working on his cars. Richard also enjoys design and fabrication and has built his own succession of dental trailers and tools. He has recently purchased property in Dade City where he hopes to add offices and clinic areas to further grow Advanced Equine Dentistry’s practice.

Tony Mutchler DVM    Dr. Tony Mutchler, DVM, received his veterinary degree from the  University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Although he received a broad-based veterinary education covering horses, dogs, cats, birds, exotic animals, and livestock, he followed the vet school’s equine track before graduation. In addition to completing numerous clinical rotations involving equine medicine at vet school, he completed multiple rotations and externships at equine facilities in Illinois, Ohio, and Florida. As a veterinarian, he practiced at several mixed-animal clinics in Alabama and north-central Florida before opening his own mixed-animal mobile veterinary practice in 2012. A significant part of his mobile practice has involved horses and, specifically, equine dentistry. Dr. Tony’s love and appreciation for horses was fostered at the small Pennsylvania horse farm owned by his grandfather, a former member of the US Calvary DSC_6205and retired mounted police officer in Philadelphia. His personal interests include traveling and otherwise spending time with his amazing teen-aged daughters, Delaney and Savannah, and his wonderful and supportive fiancée, Jamie; watching and occasionally playing soccer; kayaking; and reading. He recently checked off sky-diving from his “bucket list,” and previously visited Machu Picchu, enjoyed one of Johnny Cash’s last live performances, snorkeled alongside a glacier in Iceland and with sea lions in the Galápagos Islands, watched the wild horses swim at Chincoteague, and saw a live professional soccer match in London, among other “bucket list” activities.

Veterinarians  Advanced Equine Dentistry employs veterinarians who provide the medical supervision to our dental procedures.  In the state of Florida, the law requires a licensed vet to oversee both equine sedation and the use of power tools in dentistry.  Because Richard Grist CEqD feels strongly that these procedures ensure the best possible exam, treatment plan, and the comfort of your horse, he follows these guidelines to maintain absolute safety!  In addition, because of this veterinary presence, Advanced Equine Dentistry is proud to offer vaccines, coggins, and minor medical services that can occur during the course of a routine visit.  Our vets are happy to participate in the wellness care of your horses!  For non- dental related emergencies after hours, we recommend the utilizing your personal veterinarian or we can give you contact information for local vets that service your area and are familiar with our practice.
